The anniversary campaign pre-event will include e-newsletters, polls, podcasts, ways to get involved via social media (Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn) — and you will also find coverage in our full-length publications, like the Auto Fin Journal, Auto Remarketing and more.
Our campaign is designed to inspire you to think back to what YOU were doing 20 years ago, as Ron Smith, the founder of Auto Remarketing and its parent company, S&A Cherokee, and his lieutenant, Bill Zadeits (now president of Cherokee Media Group, presenter of Used Car Week), and team were holding the very first NRC conference at a resort on Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Yeah, we know, looking back to 1999 takes some leg work, or brain work — but give it a shot. Looking back 20 years ago, here’s a few things our team discovered were ‘going down’ around the country and the world (we’ll stick to the lighthearted stuff.)
- Lance Armstrong wins his first Tour de France in July 1999.
- The U.S. Women’s National Team beats China in the 1999 Women’s World Cup. (You’ll probably remember one of the most epic victory celebrations ever, via Brandi Chastain.)
- The Toyota Camry was the best-selling car in America.
- PayPal was voted one of the 10 worst business ideas of 1999 (We all know how that ended up).
You’ll be seeing more of these little tidbits from the Used Car Week team as we get closer to November.
And the Toast to 20 will all culminate in a reception to close out the NRC, at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14, that will celebrate 20 years of NRC success — due in large part to our attendees, sponsors, and of course, speakers.
The NRC, Nov. 13-15, returns to Las Vegas at the Red Rock Casino, Resort, and Spa this year. And speaking of speakers … the 2019 agenda is already full of content designed to examine the most pressing business developments that impact vehicle consignors, brick-and-mortar auto auctions, online auctions, technology/service providers and all stakeholders in the remarketing industry. Topics that will be explored range from data analysis of current market conditions and forecasting economic trends, and how players within the auto auction space are using technology to their advantage, to political and regulatory impacts on the wholesale auto industry, and new and alternative ways consignors are wholesaling vehicles.
Companies on the lineup for the 2019 NRC agenda, which goes live online in early September, includes brands like KAR Auction Services, Manheim, ACV Auctions, AuctionEdge, ALG, Edmunds.com, XLerate Group, SmartAuction, Toyota Finance Services, and more.
Highlights from the 2019 agenda include a series of three “Buyers & Sellers Perspectives” panels that will include both consignors and dealers, to get a big-picture view of today’s consignment industries.
Keynote sessions will include presentations from Peter Kelly, President of KAR Auction Services; and Zach Hollowell, VP of Manheim Digital. Attendees will also be able to attend fireside chats from both IAA and the McConkey Auction Group.
