As the team at Cherokee Media Group gears up for what we know is going to be another week of successful events during November’s Used Car Week 2018, we also have the chance to reflect on some of the lasting connections we have made in the industry over the years — and how those have positively impacted our events, business and individual lives.

Networking and business relationships certainly spur careers, but they do more than that; they also provide inspiration and encourage innovation (think, two heads are yes, most likely still better than one).

And one of the biggest partners of Used Car Week is, you guessed it, the National Auto Auction Association (NAAA). We are now in our third year of partnering with NAAA for the combined NRC + NAAA event that brings together the National Remarketing Conference and NAAA’s annual convention.

With our powers combined, we are able to offer even broader and more varied educational content, offer a chance for NAAA committees to connect, and also provide opportunities for committee members to discuss key topics with an impressive audience of remarketers – including many of whom they represent.

NRC + NAAA, scheduled for Nov. 13-16 during the second block of Used Car Week in Scottsdale, Ariz., brings together decisions makers, vendors, clients and some of the most innovative minds in the remarketing and auto auction industries. And don’t worry, there are plenty of opportunities to network via receptions, awards luncheons, networking breaks in the exhibit hall and more.


And… did I mention educational opportunities? Take this, for example. The NRC + NAAA event will launch with what reads a bit like a ‘who’s who’ of auto. The NRC + NAAA Welcome Luncheon will feature a keynote from Alan Mulally, former president and CEO of Ford Motor Co., followed by a moderated Q&A session including:

  • Cox Automotive president Sandy Schwartz
  • KAR Auction Services chairman and CEO Jim Hallett
  • BSC America chairman and CEO Ray Nichols

And NRC workshops on tap during the event include well-known brands and companies in the industry such as ADESA, Manheim, Xlerate Group, IAA, TradeRev and more. Panels offered include a “Wholesale & Residual Value Update”, as well as an “Economists Roundtable”, that will hone in on the micro and macro economic trends impacting the auction and auto remarketing industries today. So, you’ll leave the event with a pulse on where supply, values and trends are heading in your business community.

But our partnership with NAAA also gives us a chance to do one more thing. Coming together provides us with the opportunity to celebrate the good things that are happening in the industry, as well as honor milestones for well-known names throughout the auto business.

And this year, NAAA itself is celebrating one such milestone as it recognizes its platinum, 70th anniversary year. In fact, you may have already noticed Auto Remarketing’s NAAA Platinum series, which have been running in AR issues since March 1, and will run through November’s event. These articles include features on influential auction leaders, including NAAA CEO Frank Hackett and more.

So, I know, I’ve said it three time now (at least) — partnerships are great. BUT, it bears repeating that networking at events like Used Car Week and fostering business connections can lead to more than just career opportunities — but rather grow into mutually beneficial business relationships that can bring audiences and communities together for the better for years to come. At least, that’s how it played out for us!
